Traffic Jam

Traffic jam is a line or lines of stationary or very slow-moving traffic, caused by roadworks, an accident or heavy congestion and also in wet weathers. It happens also due to population rapid growth which causes high demand in cars. Traffic jams occur usually during peak hours in the morning and evening and also over the weekends as there is too much congestion. One of the most important promblems is parking. It is also the cause of traffic congestion as if there were more spaces to park there will be lesser congestions in the city area.

Roads does not have enough lanes to accomodate 969,910 vehicles which have already been causing serious congestions. A survey was done by .dailymail.co.uk for COMMUTER PAIN SURVEY'S WORST CITIES FOR DRIVING IN THE WORLD  rating us in the top 10 cities for the worst city to drive in. In order to ease the traffic, the singapore government have raised COE prices and it does not include car costs, also we are the first country to put an ERP almost all over town area.

Long hours on the road has made drivers feel tired especially if they were to be stuck in a jam they tend to get frustrated as they have to concentrate on slow moving traffic. Besides that, they would tend to drive closely to the other vehicle and cause higher chance of an accident to occur. When they are stuck and are not able to move, they get anxious, feel restricted and regulated. They feel like they're trapped within a small area when the car can't really move yet it's still burning fuel, they feel powerless and irritated. Road rage also happen due to traffic jams and people  may get  aggressive or angry due to the behaviour of a driver of an automobile or other road vehicle.

Taxi drivers feel that they lose quite abit of business as traffic jam happens and they feel sad as their livelihood depends on this job. I found that people tend to get easily frustrated and tired  if their time to travel was really long. Some drivers say during a traffic jam they would try to relax by listening to music or call a friend as there is no point getting angry as it would not improve traffic.

I found an article on traffic jam mystery  solved by a  mathematicians where they  show how  unexpected events such as a lorry (tractor trailer) pulling out of its lane on a dual carriageway (divided highway with median between traffic going in opposite directions). Their model revealed that slowing down below a critical speed when reacting to such an event, a driver would force the car behind to slow down further and the next car back to reduce its speed further still. The result of this is that several miles back, cars would finally grind to a halt, with drivers oblivious to the reason for their delay.
The physics behind traffic jam as sometimes when  accident are clear  but there's still remain jam cause is by a person car stop then eventually all the cars behind would have to stop. The first car would have to speed up alittle and follow by the next to unclog the jam.

Reading alot on traffic jam have made me realise how we people get unhappy easily due to a jam and it spoils our day.
In a jam people just have to relax and give other cars sufficient space to one another  so that they do not have to worry about bumping the car infront or behind.
