• Urban areas in the US are not adding enough capacity, improving management systems  well enough to keep congestion from growing larger.  Congestion is now major part of the transportation systems, affecting more of the trips and a greater portion of the average week in urban areas of all sizes just like the highways in Singapore.  Heavy traffic has  increased from 12 per cent to 40 per cent of peak period travel. Free-flowing traffic space is less than half of the amount in 1982, same as Singapore traffic jam  in the early 1970s where it started

Congestion of grow due to population growth, because of that funding and major projects are put to ease the problem. Since the US has a lot of cities it takes 10 to 15 years for major projects to be completed. By the time numbers of vehicles  would have gone up and the trend would continue.

Congestion is more severe in larger cities like singapore as there are overcrowding number of people working in the city. It is not surprising that congestion is more severe in larger urban areas.  Congestion problems occur in many ways. Some congestion is determined by the layout of an area, some is determined by weather conditions, accidents and vehicle breakdowns. Traffic jam have a lot of impact on our life whether you are a student going to school, or a working adult.

Better service of public transportation can provide more productivity from the existing system at relatively low cost. Some of these can be improve with the use information technology, some are the result of educating travelers about their options, and some are the result of providing a more wider views of traveling and development options than are currently available. 

Congestion does not have to be an all-day event. Finding solutions and funding sources that meet a variety of terms and condition is challenging enough without having to eliminate congestion in all locations. The solutions will vary not only by the state or city they are implemented in, but also by the type of development, the level of activity and constraints in particular sub-regions, neighborhoods and activity centers. Portions of a city might be able to construction solutions, other areas might use more demand management, efficiency improvements and land use pattern or redevelopment solutions.

As a business woman as well as a salesperson, i have many appointments to attend to. As I recently started my company, all my appointments usually begin at 9.30am
every morning. I get up at 6.30am to get ready and leave house at 7.15am to catch bus 168 at woodlands interchange. The bus would be packed with people and I
would have to wait for the 2nd bus which would come approximately every 10 minutes interval. This bus would have to make a stop at  Seletar Camp. This part of the journey usually takes the longest time.
As it will take a round-a-bout before the bus turns in, there will be alot of trucks coming through, causing congestion that would take about 15mins before the bus manages to get out
and head to TPE. TPE would be congested with many cars and lorries. By the time I reach tampines it would already be 10am. Due to the traffic jam, it caused me to be late by almost two and a half hours. I feel that this is very unproductive and time is being wasted. With such heavy traffic every morning, I feel that it has become an issue and is affecting my daily life significantly.
